Simple yoga combined with a little Pilates has bee Simple yoga combined with a little Pilates has been an indispensable part of my life for many years. Doing this kickstarted my metabolism for the day, kept my weight in check without any strenuous diets and also energised me. Studies show that exercise relieves stress but since the year began, stress got the better of me and for the first time in nearly a decade, I stopped my regular exercise. I started my exercise routine again and I’m so grateful for the same!
Baking Hari’s birthday cakes used to be one of t Baking Hari’s birthday cakes used to be one of the highlights of my life every year. With all my boxes still unpacked, this is the first time I didn’t bake a cake for Hari’s birthday!

But that didn’t stop me from making it special for my cheese loving boy with this cheese platter with locally made, vegetarian and chemical free cheese from @begumvictoriacheese. Trust moms to always come up with things to make their kids happy!

The deep and nutty flavours of the French cheese Gruyere, the buttery, rich and creamy Spanish cheese Manchego and the soft, creamy and silky Brie were complemented with colour and texture by strawberries, walnuts and prunes. I also had a side of some crackers.

Thanks to my dear friend Saloni who always gives personalised gifts for handing over this board that didn’t go into the boxes. 😊

It has been such a wonderful journey to be a mother to this wonderful boy and I’m grateful for the loving and responsible person he is shaping up to be.
Yesterday, I had the honour and pleasure of savour Yesterday, I had the honour and pleasure of savouring food cooked by the incredible @thatthalasserygirl. Our meeting was long intended but somehow fructified yesterday.

Marina’s food was all that I had imagined it to be. Having eaten Kerala food cooked by some of the best temple cooks, what was spectacular about this meal, apart from its authentic taste, was that she made the entire course single-handedly. Marina’s food is exactly how traditional Sattvic food is prepared. It is not overtly spicy, and the moderate use of just the right amount of spices and techniques brings out the flavours of the vegetables. This food is good for the body, mind and soul indeed!

Marina is a classic example of how age cannot hinder one’s calling in life. She decided to become a student at age 50 and went on to pursue the culinary arts in NYC, interned at a Michelin-starred restaurant and then ventured into Oottupura and now has every celebrity in town eating out of her hands. And I get the feeling that her journey has just begun and she will do great things to take her beloved cuisine to the world in the years to come.

Her discipline, devotion and commitment shine through her work, and her single-minded focus on her passion is truly admirable. Apart from cooking a fantastic meal, the love and affection with which she serves her food is the icing on the cake.

Thank you for a memorable afternoon, dear Marina! But I shall remember to skip breakfast when I’m having lunch with you to do full justice to your food the next time we meet! 😊

There are so many aspects and layers to us as huma There are so many aspects and layers to us as human beings, and true wellness and balance can be achieved when we focus on 3 important aspects of ourselves- body, mind and soul. Ancient healing and wisdom traditions have long acknowledged this fact which is also now being recognised by modern science.

Sharing 3 tips to make 2023 magical by bringing the focus into your body, mind and soul. These simple steps have worked for me, and I’m sure they will also work for you.

Though this is simple, it may not be easy at times. I’m a work in progress myself, and when I find any of this challenging, I pick up from where I left off instead of giving it up altogether. Doing this works like magic and helps me navigate through my journey of life and live with intention and purpose.

Wishing whoever is reading this a very happy new year! May your life be filled with health, happiness, peace and purpose! 🤍

The humble spices in our kitchen have immense medi The humble spices in our kitchen have immense medicinal and healing properties! It’s time to give them their due recognition! Fennel seeds are well known for their excellent digestive power and are good for gas, bloating, acidity and other concerns relating to the digestive tract. They have antioxidant properties that are great for skin and hair. And apart from many other benefits, also help in weight management and detoxification.

Make this simple tea and have it at least for 7 days to experience their miraculous benefits. The best time to have this tea is during the Vata period of the day which happens to be between 2 pm to 6 pm. Make sure you sip on the water and chew the seeds! 🤍

Instagram is full of recipe ideas to make for the Instagram is full of recipe ideas to make for the festive season. If you haven’t made anything yet and want to make something special and quick for your loved ones, take a look at pineapple sheera!

I love a well made pineapple sheera, and a big shot out to my dear sil @hegdevinutha who makes awesome pineapple sheera!

Find the detailed recipe for this exquisite treat, full of pineapple flavour here:

Pineapple Sheera

Ingredients:

1 cup organic cane sugar (raw sugar)
3 cups water
1/4 tsp saffron
1/2 cup ghee
1 cup fine semolina (Bombay rava not chiroti rava)
1 cup pineapple, chopped into cubes
1/2 tsp cardamom powder

Method:

1. Mix the sugar with the water, add the saffron and heat on moderately low heat.
2. In a pan heat the ghee and after the ghee melts, add the semolina and roast on low heat for 4 to 5 minutes, until the raw smell disappears.
3. Add the pineapple pieces into the pan and roast on low heat until the semolina is golden brown, about 12 to 15 minutes.
4. Pour the sugar syrup into the pan and allow the semolina to absorb all the water.
5. Stir in the cardamom powder, mix well and cook for a couple of minutes more and turn off the heat.
6. Say your prayers and enjoy!
In lieu of the classic British humour and the high In lieu of the classic British humour and the highlight lettuce has got in the media lately, I had the chance to share all about lettuce with @middayindia in today’s edition.

Lettuce grows very well in the cooler parts of the year and we get the freshest produce in the winter. Though India is the 3rd largest producer of lettuce in the world, lettuce is yet to find mainstream acceptance in India. It is rarely used in traditional Indian cuisine.

Using lettuce in a salad is a no brainer but I also love to use lettuce in roasted and grilled vegetables. I do this by adding roughly chopped lettuce when the vegetables are half done. This ensures that the lettuce is not charred and roasted to perfection. Lettuce is high in minerals like calcium, phosphorous, magnesium and potassium and it’s nice to include it in your diet at times!

Find the recipe for a family favourite Greek Salad in today’s mid day or on my website by doing a search for divine taste Greek salad.
There is something pristine about cooking, serving There is something pristine about cooking, serving and sharing food with love. Yesterday I was fortunate to share my table filled with regional north Karnataka fare, with one of the sweetest souls I know. And the thing about Indian regional cooking is that there are so many hidden aspects to it, one that has been passed on through generations from hundreds of years. So much to learn and so much to explore. It is one of the most fortunate experiences to be able to experience it and share it! @emilyshahofficial
