There is a saying in Kannada that when it starts t There is a saying in Kannada that when it starts to rain, mangoes should be tied to donkeys' legs. While the origins of this old saying remain shrouded in mystery, it is a fact that rains signal the end of most mango varieties.

As a mango lover, I continue to eat mangoes for as long as I can access them until mid-August! But come June, Alphonso waves goodbye to us for the year!

While I love love mangoes, I also love to have Aamras with triangular chapatis/parathas during the mango season. Although Puri Aamras is a more exotic combination, chapati Aamras is better for regular consumption.

I have been fortunate to have had access to the best alphonso mango suppliers until now. It is a taste of heaven whether had as a fruit or made into aamras or milkshakes.

And now...It’s that time of the year when I have to say goodbye to my beloved Alphonso…until we meet again! 💛😊
If you are someone who grew up in the 80s or 90s, If you are someone who grew up in the 80s or 90s, you might remember that melons were a summer delight! Melons were not available throughout the year like they are now! Especially watermelons!

But it's only in the recent few years that I have discovered the joy of melons! Being a hardcore mango lover, I never looked at any other fruit in summer until recently! Of course, mangoes remain my favourite! But I have learned the art of eating different fruits with the king of fruits 🥭 in summer.

Musk melons are delicious! They have a delicate, beautiful musky aroma, smooth and sweet flesh and are satiating on a hot summer day!

Musk melons are cooling in nature and ideal for calming the heat! Summer is a pitta season, and mother nature knows how to give us the most suitable produce, compatible with seasonal variations!

In Ayurveda, there is a saying that when it comes to melons, you either eat them alone or leave them alone! This means that melons are best eaten on an empty stomach. You can eat them in the morning 30 Min before breakfast or in the afternoon between lunch and dinner.

Enjoy your fruit! 🍈🍈🍈

This luscious mango dessert is sure to delight your senses. Mango shrikhand or Aamrakhand is a divine dessert that can be enjoyed anytime during the mango season. Sweet, flavorful mangoes come together with smooth yoghurt to create an irresistible, velvety treat!

It was wonderful to attend the launch of the Godre It was wonderful to attend the launch of the Godrej food trends report 2022 at @vikhrolicucina last night. It was great to meet Nadir Godrej, a wonderful and unassuming man. It was also lovely to meet friends from the industry after a long, long time!

Rushina and her team put in a lot of effort to make this report. I have shared some insights on the classification of vegetables as per Ayurveda, ghee and other titbits in this report. You can download the report from @vikhrolicucina website.
Happy Earth Day! I was so happy to receive this fr Happy Earth Day! I was so happy to receive this fresh bunch of lettuce despite the heat and humidity of Mumbai. Today is a great day to express gratitude for all the abundance that Mother Earth showers on us for us to live, grow and prosper.

Summer is a great time to eat your salads if you love them! As per Ayurveda sweet, bitter and astringent tastes are recommended to balance the pitta (heat) of the summer season. A light Sattvic meal can be very healing and cooling for this season. Use lime, fresh herbs, greens and stay away from pitta aggravating foods like caffeine, spicy foods, fried foods, garlic, onion, processed and canned foods to balance pitta.

Choosing the right food for you and your family through the changing seasons will ensure health, peace and happiness!

Wishing you all a great summer!
According to Ayurveda our five senses are the gate According to Ayurveda our five senses are the gateways through which we perceive the external world. Underuse, overuse or misuse of these senses can lead to a state of imbalance.

With the help of the five senses, humans can strive to achieve a state of balance. This can be done by regulating our senses.

Sound-We do this by filtering sounds that enter our ears. Swap gossip, negative talk and criticism by hearing sounds of nature-birds chirping, lashing rain, rustling leaves, melodious music and chanting hymns and mantras.

Sight-The sense of sight can be balanced by taking in as much natural light from the sun as is possible and regulating blue light emanating from our screens. Looking at the expanse of the sky, the greenery of the trees and leaves, the vastness of the ocean or the stillness of a lake can be very soothing to the eyes. Yogic practices like trataka (looking at a candle light to enhance eyesight) or staring at the moon and Netra snan (splashing eyes with water) are simple practices for the well being of our eyes.

Touch- the sense of touch can be balanced with Abhyanga or oil massage. This can be done by yourself or by a masseur. Affectionate hugs and kisses from our loved ones (especially for children) are also important to instill a sense of well being in us.

Taste- Eating a healthy balanced diet is a no brainer. Ayurveda also suggests a Sattvic diet with six tastes or shad rasas- sweet, sour salty, bitter, pungent and astringent that includes a balanced meal for over all well being.

Smell- inhaling natural and purifying aromas can be very calming for the mind. I highly recommend camphor and sandalwood for purifying the energy around us.

P.S: I dished out this pic that I shot 14 years ago when I took to photography and didn’t leave home without lugging my slr with me. Those were beautiful times when I started to brush sides with my calling in life. This is a beautiful yellow Gulmohar that blooms in summer. When the Gulmohar blooms it heralds the onset of the Grisham Ritu or the summer season. Looking at the beautiful flowers that bloom every season can instill a deep sense of calm and happiness within.

I have such fond memories of eating crispy, flaky, salty mathris (or matthi) while growing up. When I was pregnant, our family friend Parvinder aunty indulged me with mathris when I had nausea in the first trimester. These salty treats were one of the many things that kept me going from my mother’s constant parcels during that time in my life.

Traditional Indian treats are delicious, and here, I give you both the traditional version that you can have as an occasional treat and an alternative version for regular indulgences.

I love fruits and it is a moment of celebration fo I love fruits and it is a moment of celebration for me when I receive gifts like this! Relished every bit of these Kaali-Patti Chikoos lovingly grown in a farm in Gujarat @the5amfarm using Eco friendly sustainable farming techniques. It was lovely to see that these fruits of nature came in Eco friendly packing as well.

Thank you Aditya for this wonderful gift that I’m going to be relishing this week! @the5amguy

Chikoos are nutrient dense and great for immunity, skin and hair. They are also wonderful for pregnant women as they are nutrient dense and can help with nausea and morning sickness.

I love the sense of well being that I feel when I eat fresh fruit. When chikoos are in season make the best use of them!
Today is Holika Dahan. It signifies the triumph of Today is Holika Dahan. It signifies the triumph of good over evil! It’s also a good day to reflect on the negativity and “ego” that resides within us and let go of it. Coming to think of it, all the festivals inherent to cultures and communities across the world gain more depth when we look at them deeply and infuse our thoughts, words and deeds with love for ourselves and those around us. Prayers for peace to prevail!

Today was also the day I was blessed with Hari since he was born the day before Holi as per the Vedic calendar. On this happy occasion, I’m sharing the recipe of the cake that I made for him on the 10th of March which happens to be his bday as per the Gregorian calendar. 😊 This is particularly for so many of you who had asked for the recipe, when I had shared it in my stories.

For the recipe, visit my website (link in bio) or google divine taste vanilla cake chocolate ganache recipe. https://www.divinetaste.com/eggless-vanilla-cake-with-chocolate-ganache/
Made Gulab Jamuns today, my mother-in-law’s favo Made Gulab Jamuns today, my mother-in-law’s favourite sweet for the 13th day ritual which also marks the end of the mourning period.

We had not seen her for a long time due to the pandemic and I had told her a few months ago that I will make it for her the next time I see her. It so happened that I had to make it for her this way… such is life!

Change is the only constant in life and life must move on!
At times words fail you, and this is one of those At times words fail you, and this is one of those times for me. My mother-in-law passed on, on the morning of 2nd February this week.

She was a fiercely independent dynamic lady who donned many roles-that of an entrepreneur, mother, wife, grand mother and friend.

Always dressed impeccably in gorgeous handloom sarees, she was a woman with a mission who was independent until the last day. Her cooking was phenomenal and her housekeeping skills were unmatched. Her well stocked pantry and kitchen always had the freshest vegetables and fruits, spices and other ingredients with not a single missing item at any given point in time. Her table was always neatly laid in starched linen and cutlery that she had collected with so much passion. And all the bedrooms in her home always covered with pristine white sheets.

Her enthusiasm to live life to the fullest was unmatched. Once even heavy rains did not deter her from making a trip to Tulsi Bagh, Pune where we shopped for antiques and fresh produce wearing raincoats and giggling like kids. Once when I had just started my website, she called me excitedly saying that she spotted bright red Cherries and promptly couriered them to me for making a recipe with them.

Thank you for the inspiration Mama, you will be always remembered as the queen and the Iron Lady that you always were! 🙏🏼
